About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Strategic Mine Planning, the Superintendent Mine Planning leads a team of technical professionals responsible for shaping the future direction of a Pilbara Hub through integrated life-of-asset planning, strategic optimisation, and resource development opportunities.

The position is accountable for the development, governance, and continuous improvement of integrated mine plans that maximise long-term value, support sustainable mine progression, and enable delivery of WAIO's strategic objectives.

As the planning leader for the Hub, the Superintendent Mine Planning provides leadership across planning disciplines, ensuring activities are aligned with business objectives, operational requirements, and future growth opportunities.

Working closely with Operations, Resource Engineering, Business Planning, Strategy, and other technical functions, the role drives value optimisation initiatives and delivers high-quality planning outcomes that effectively balance value, risk, and operational performance.

Responsibilities within the role will include

• Champion a culture of safety, sustainability, inclusion, and operational excellence.
• Lead the development and optimisation of integrated life-of-asset, strategic, and medium-term mine plans that maximise resource value and support sustainable mine progression.

Build strong partnerships across Operations, Resource Engineering, Business Planning, Strategy, and other technical functions to enable effective decision-making and value delivery.

• Lead the annual Ore Reserve process, ensuring technical integrity, governance, compliance, and robust reporting outcomes.
• Develop, coach, and mentor your engineers and technical professionals to build capability, engagement, and high performance.
• Drive continuous improvement of mine planning methodologies, standards, systems, and governance frameworks.
• Ensure planning risks and opportunities are effectively identified, assessed, and managed.
• Provide visible field leadership and support assurance activities to maintain compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
• Validate alignment between Hub plans, life-of-asset strategies, and WAIO's broader strategic objectives.
• Provide strategic planning expertise to support investment decisions, portfolio optimisation, and future growth opportunities.

To be successful in this role, you will bring

• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through complex planning studies, strategic trade-off evaluations, and business improvement initiatives.
• A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate with, and engage a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience in strategic mine planning, mine optimisation, and value-based decision making within large-scale open pit mining operations.
• The ability to balance technical, operational, and commercial considerations to maximise business value.
• Experience using open pit optimisation, mine planning, scheduling, and mine design software packages.
• Proven leadership experience building high-performing technical teams and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• The ability to establish, maintain, and leverage effective internal and external stakeholder networks.
• A commitment to continuous improvement, inclusion, sustainability, and safe work practices.

You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’.
