Work Location

This role will be based at the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK. The work schedule for this role is Monday to Friday.

For those not living locally, BHP provides relocation assistance to the local Jansen area. Alternatively, you can enjoy the convenience and comfort of our onsite camp accommodation at Discovery Lodge during your shifts.

BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required. Benefits offered as part of the relocation program include (but are not limited to) new home purchase assistance, temporary accommodations, home finding trip and a resettlement allowance.

The Challenge Ahead

Part of Jansen Stage 2 Project Owner’s Team, Area Construction Manager provides site leadership to the JS2 team in a specific sub area of the project (Surface or Mining), focusing on the implementation of Construction strategy, execution of work, and safe Site Delivery. This role includes oversight of ePCM area delivery at the Jansen site.

Additionally, the role has strategic interfaces with BHP Asset, Project Engineering, Procurement, Contracts, Mine Development, Commissioning, HSS and Handover to Operations. This includes implementation of strategies, and integration and interface management across the project lifecycle to ensure safe execution.

In this role, you will

Responsible for ensuring safe management and delivery of construction contracts, and site common services scope over lifecycle of the project

Provide leadership through influence with the site team supporting delivery of scope in accordance with BHP standards and aligned with BOS behaviors and ways of working. Monitors and manages site execution performance to deliver outcomes in line with safety standards, budget and scope.

• Establishes and delivers the JS2 Construction Risk Management program in a given sub-area to effectively measure, manage and mitigate project risk.
• Implements the Owner’s assurance program for construction execution.

Manage key project interfaces, ensuring that ePCM scope is safely executed and driving both Project and Asset KPI’s. This includes interfaces between ePCM managed UG mine construction (SMPEI) and BHP managed UG mine development, as well as surface interfaces including SMPEI scope adjacent to, or within BHP Asset (Production) battery limits.

Identifies critical activities and monitors the project construction delivery through continuous improvement initiatives, with a focus on capturing and incorporating key lessons learned.

Ensures appropriate project work planning processes (AWP) are implemented across the project, to ensure that project schedule is de-risked and construction productivity is maximized.

Oversight of site contract execution and analysis to maximize operational and financial performance and mitigate exposure and risk.

Identifies and assesses risks, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

• 10+ years of Construction & Project Management experience primarily in Industrial and Mining Projects
• Experience in both Surface and Underground construction as well as Greenfield and Brownfield execution
• Project delivery experience with interfaces across multiple areas - Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, Operations

Ability to lead and implement an Owner’s Risk and HSS Safety program at the Jansen site. Line responsibility for safe delivery of Scope across Project Facilities.

Delivery within a matrix organization and requires a superior ability to lead without having direct authority over the team members
