About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Electrical Reliability Engineer to join our Newman Operations Fixed Plant team. Reporting to the Reliability Superintendent, you will provide technical coaching and reliability engineering expertise across a diverse portfolio of electrical assets, driving sustainable improvements in asset performance, safety, availability and lifecycle cost.

As a senior member of the team, you will partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and Planning functions to develop and execute reliability strategies that maximise equipment effectiveness and reduce operational risk. You will be responsible for identifying and eliminating chronic losses, improving maintenance strategies, managing asset health, and ensuring the long-term integrity of critical electrical infrastructure.

This role requires a strong analytical mindset, the ability to influence outcomes across multiple stakeholders, and a passion for continuous improvement. You will balance short-term operational needs with long-term asset performance priorities while contributing to the safe and reliable operation of Newman Operations' fixed plant assets.

Working on a 5:2 / 4:3 roster FIFO from Perth or a 5/2 residential roster from Newman, you will provide engineering support across electrical systems including power distribution networks, HV and LV infrastructure, motors, drives, protection systems, instrumentation and control systems.

  • Provide technical guidance for electrical reliability and asset health management across fixed plant operations.
  • Develop and execute reliability improvement strategies that deliver measurable improvements in safety, availability, maintainability and cost performance.
  • Facilitate root cause analyses (RCA) and defect elimination initiatives to address recurring equipment failures and operational losses.
  • Review and optimise preventive, predictive and condition-based maintenance strategies for critical electrical assets.
  • Evaluate asset performance, failure trends and condition monitoring data to identify emerging risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct equipment criticality assessments and implement risk mitigation plans for high-consequence assets.
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance and Planning teams to improve asset performance and reliability outcomes.
  • Contribute to capital projects, shutdown planning and major maintenance activities by providing reliability engineering input and asset expertise.
  • Support compliance with statutory obligations, engineering standards and BHP technical requirements.
  • Mentor engineers, specialists and frontline teams in reliability methodologies and best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement through the application of reliability engineering principles, data analytics and industry-leading asset management practices.

About You

You are a collaborative and technically capable reliability professional who thrives in complex operational environments. You bring a strong electrical engineering foundation combined with practical experience improving reliability outcomes across heavy industry, mining, resources, utilities or similar asset-intensive operations.

You possess excellent stakeholder engagement skills and can influence decisions across multiple disciplines and people leadership levels. You are comfortable using data and engineering analysis to challenge conventional thinking, identify improvement opportunities and deliver sustainable business outcomes.

Most importantly, you are committed to creating a culture of safety, operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Experience, skills and qualifications required include

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Demonstrated experience in reliability engineering within mining, minerals processing, oil and gas, utilities or other heavy industrial environments
  • Strong knowledge of HV and LV power systems, electrical distribution networks, motors, drives, switchgear, protection systems and fixed plant infrastructure
  • Experience conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and reliability assessments
  • Proven capability in maintenance strategy development and optimisation
  • Strong understanding of asset management and reliability frameworks
  • Experience using SAP, APM and/or similar enterprise asset management systems
  • Strong problem-solving and stakeholder management skills
  • Exposure to functional safety, control systems and industrial automation
  • Current C Class Driver's Licence
