About the Role

The Manager, Mine Operations is responsible for leading the successful transition of a gold mining operation from commissioning and ramp-up phase into safe, stable, and efficient commercial operations. This role provides strategic direction and safe execution of all daily mining activities to meet production, safety, cost, and quality targets. The Manager ensures that operational readiness and workforce capability strictly align with mine plans while championing a culture of transparency, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across Nevada Projects.

As a key member of the site leadership team reporting to the Operational Readiness Director, the Manager, Mine Operations partners closely with Maintenance, Mine Planning & Engineering, Technical Services, and Safety teams to drive fleet optimization, embed short-interval controls, and foster a proactive zero-harm safety culture.

• Key Responsibilities
• Operational Execution

• Lead the transition from project commissioning and startup activities into full-scale open-pit mining operations.
• Direct all open-pit mining activities, including loading, drilling, hauling, waste removal, and stockpile management to ensure strict alignment with mine plans and production forecasts.
• Provide oversight of contractor blasting operations, ensuring adherence to safety, environmental, mine plan, technical standards, and production targets.

Cost Management & Financial Control

• Develop and manage operational and sustaining capital budgets.
• Track and manage actual variances to budget, optimize resource utilization, and implement operating cost controls.

Fleet Optimization & Deployment

• Prioritize and allocate equipment resources (haul trucks, loaders, and support equipment) based on operational needs.
• Drive fleet optimization strategies ensuring cost performance aligns with mine plans and production targets.

Maintenance & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner seamlessly with the Maintenance department to strategically schedule equipment downtime, set repair priorities, and actively reduce unexpected equipment losses.
• Work closely with mine planning and engineering to optimize short-interval control and provide operational expertise supporting feasibility studies, EPCM execution, and plant commissioning.

Performance Indicators & Data Analysis

• Manage all mine, safety, and maintenance performance indicators, ensuring target achievement.
• Propose corrective actions and establish internal data analysis routines to monitor operational performance.

Safety Leadership & Ground Control

• Champion a "Zero Harm" culture with high awareness of health, safety, and environmental requirements.
• Enforce MSHA surface mining standards, routine workplace examinations, and proactive ground control hazard identification.

Innovation, Stewardship & Team Leadership

• Supervise, mentor, and grow a high-performing team while fostering a positive environment and providing constructive feedback.
• Strengthen a culture of innovation through continuous analysis of operations, leveraging fleet management systems and implemented technology to enhance competitiveness.
• Maintain strong awareness of the cultural and community aspects of mine development, ensuring site activities align with organizational values and local commitments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Operations Management, or related discipline required (equivalent practical operational leadership experience will be considered).
• Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in mining operations or heavy industrial environments, with proven success leading safe operations in an open-pit environment.
• Proven background managing a full production cycle (drilling, blasting, loading, hauling).
• Demonstrated experience leading mining operations through commissioning, startup, ramp-up, and commercial production phases.
• Extensive knowledge of MSHA standards and compliance requirements applicable to surface mining.
• Advanced understanding of fleet utilization metrics, including cycle times, spotting times, and dig rates.
• Strong business acumen with expertise in managing operational budgets, cost variance tracking, and resource allocation.
• Strong leadership presence with the ability to coach, mentor, and lead workforce planning and succession planning initiatives.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, capable of engaging and aligning employees, contractors, and leadership.
• Ability to build trust and maintain productive relationships with cross-functional teams, regulators, and local communities.
• Valid driver's license required with the ability to operate company vehicles safely in accordance with company policies.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Ability to work a 4-day, 10-hour day shift schedule (Monday–Thursday or Tuesday–Friday), with flexibility for weekend or evening work as operational needs require.
