We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Rosebank, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

As Welder your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Safety, Health, and Environment

• Adhere to all health and safety practices and requirements.
• Promote good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where team members can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.

• Ensure effective plant equipment and related machinery maintenance to ensure optimal utilisation and availability toward maximising production and throughput schedules.
• Identify and report defects, equipment failures and time required to repair the Supervisor to enable applicable decision-making, action planning and problem resolution.

Support plant personnel by ensuring that the necessary plant and equipment maintenance preparations and maintenance tasks are done following SMP (Standard Maintenance Practice) to improve work practices and operational targets.

Ensure installations, commissioning of infrastructure and post-installation work testing for functionality are executed following specifications to meet deadlines and budget requirements.

Continuously monitor maintenance progress and related preparation activities against planned schedules to meet operational targets, minimise downtime, enable timely reporting and enhance plant efficiency.

Assist the supervisor and co-workers according to their level/area of competence and follow company policies when instructed or during the responsible person's absence to ensure the achievement of functional objectives.

• Identify and utilise on-the-job learning opportunities to achieve the required competency levels stipulated in training modules, according to budget and timeframe requirements.
• Ensure accurate and understandable information, provide regular feedback, and monitor progress to develop and equip learners/team members with the necessary competencies.
• This role is in Engineering & Maintenance HME/Plant (ENG) department on a Band J4 (C-Lower) level reporting to the Engineering Supervisor Platework.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4) or equivalent SAQA-recognised qualification
• Trade Certificate as a Welder

Forklift Licence (advantageous)

• Overhead Crane Licence (advantageous)
• SA Drivers Licence

Technical Knowledge

2 Years’ operational experience as a Welder

Safety standards
