About Copper SA Operations at BHP

BHP is a global resources company operating across more than 90 locations worldwide, with a purpose to improve lives and support a more sustainable future.

Through Copper South Australia (Copper SA), we are building a leading copper portfolio that supports the global energy transition, supplying materials essential for renewable energy, electric vehicles and digital infrastructure.

For you, this is an exciting opportunity to grow your career, make a meaningful impact, and help shape the future of one of Australia's leading copper businesses.

About Olympic Dam

Olympic Dam is Australia’s largest world-class underground mining operations, featuring a highly advanced on-site metallurgical processing plant in South Australia. It offers the opportunity to build a long-term career in a dynamic and future-focused environment.

As part of BHP, you’ll work at a large and complex site that produces copper, uranium, gold and silver, using modern technology and innovative practices.

Located approximately 560km north of Adelaide on the traditional lands of the Kokatha, Arabana and Barngarla people, Olympic Dam is a cornerstone asset within BHP’s Minerals Australia portfolio, known for its scale, innovation, and strong focus on safety and performance.

With ongoing investment, including over A$840 million in near-term growth capital, you’ll have the opportunity to grow your career, develop future-ready skills, and contribute to meeting the world’s increasing demand for copper and a more sustainable future.

We currently have a vacancy for an Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Technician, within our Mine End Surface Maintenance department.

The Challenge ahead

As an Electrical & Instrumentation Technician, you’ll play an important role in keeping our Surface and Underground operations running safely and reliably.

Working within a mining environment, you’ll carry out planned and unplanned electrical and instrumentation maintenance across fixed plant equipment. Your technical expertise and problem-solving skills will help improve equipment performance, availability and reliability, supporting both day-to-day production and the future growth of our Surface operations.

You’ll also be trained in the BHP Operating System (BOS) and have the opportunity to contribute to standardised ways of working across the operation.

Safety is central to how we work. You’ll be part of a team where looking after yourself and others, speaking up and consistently following safe work practices are fundamental to every shift.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

We’re looking for an E&I professional who can apply strong technical skills in a practical operational environment and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

You’ll bring

  • An Australian recognised Electrical Trade qualification, which is essential, and a South Australian A-Class Electrical Workers licence or the ability to obtain one
  • An Australian recognised Instrumentation Trade qualification and instrumentation experience
  • Experience in a similar maintenance role with exposure to fixed plant is preferred
  • A strong commitment to your own wellbeing and the confidence to speak up when you see someone potentially putting themselves in harm’s way
  • The ability to make confident decisions within your area of responsibility and escalate issues when appropriate
  • An adaptable approach and willingness to learn new information and ways of working

Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day work will focus on maintaining the safety, reliability and availability of Surface and Underground electrical and instrumentation equipment. You will:

  • Complete planned and unplanned routine maintenance, inspections and checks on Surface and Underground electrical equipment and instrumentation
  • Troubleshoot and assist with resolving E&I issues affecting equipment performance and availability
  • Apply your E&I trade skills to care and maintenance activities that support overall equipment reliability and stability
  • Review and update maintenance schedules, plans and equipment history
  • Develop and revise operating and maintenance procedures and communicate plant status to relevant departments
  • Consistently follow required safety standards and procedures and maintain a high standard of housekeeping across work areas

Work Location

This role is based at Olympic Dam, South Australia, working 7 days on, 7 days off day/night roster.

Depending on your circumstances, residential, FIFO from Adelaide or DIDO options are available, providing different ways to build your career at Olympic Dam while balancing work and life.
