About the Role

The Superintendent, Mine Engineering provides technical and strategic leadership to the mine engineering department. This role is responsible for directing the development, optimization, and execution of short-, medium-, and long-term open-pit mine plans, drill-and-blast designs, and production schedules to support Nevada Projects. The Superintendent acts as the critical bridge between strategic Life-of-Mine (LOM) objectives and daily production, ensuring that all engineering deliverables maximize resource recovery, prioritize highwall and operational safety, and align tightly with processing requirements and operational budgets.

As a key member of the site operational leadership team reporting to the Mine Manager Operations, the Superintendent partners closely with Mine Operations, Exploration/Ore Control Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, and Processing to integrate across the mining value chain, optimize resource utilization, and maximize productivity.

Key Responsibilities

Mine Planning & Strategy

• Direct the creation and continuous optimization of all open-pit mine plans (short-range tactical through LOM strategic), ensuring practical sequence alignment, waste dump scheduling, and optimal haulage profiles.

Team Leadership & Technical Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of short-term, long-term, and project engineers across cross-functional disciplines.
• Manage department performance, conduct regular reviews, build Individual Development Plans (IDPs), and manage technical capability health.

Drill & Blast Engineering Oversight

• Govern the drill-and-blast engineering function to optimize fragmentation for mill/crusher throughput while strictly managing explosive costs, powder factors, and highwall stability limits.

Production Reconciliation & Quality Control

• Oversee end-of-month reconciliation processes (mine-to-mill, block model vs. actuals) to evaluate performance against plans.
• Identify root causes for tonnage, grade, or dilution variances and implement rapid corrective action plans.

Budget & Cost Control

• Develop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets for the mine engineering department.
• Collaborate with Mine Operations to continuously evaluate unit costs, fleet efficiencies, and operational trade-offs.

Cross-Functional Integration

• Partner closely with Mine Operations, Exploration/Ore Control Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, and Processing to execute blending strategies and resolve complex operational or hydrological bottlenecks.

Technology & Continuous Improvement

• Champion the integration of advanced mine planning software, haulage simulation tools, and automated reporting systems to reduce planning friction and enhance data-driven decision-making.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline required.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, advanced management training, or active SME/AusIMM membership preferred.
• Minimum 8 to 10+ years of progressive open-pit mine engineering experience in hard-rock mining environments.
• Minimum 3+ years in a supervisory or leadership capacity managing technical professionals and engineering workflows.
• Proven track record leading feasibility studies, Life-of-Mine (LOM) planning, and active production engineering in a complex, multi-phase open pit.
• In-depth understanding of open-pit mining methods, cut-off grade economics, fleet optimization strategies, and geotechnical slope stability fundamentals.
• Comprehensive knowledge of MSHA surface mining regulations and standard environmental compliance frameworks.
• Advanced capability navigating industry-standard mine planning and scheduling software (e.g., MineSight, Deswik, Vulcan, Whittle).
• Strong financial and analytical acumen with the ability to build cost-benefit trade-off studies, NPV analyses, and equipment productivity models.
• Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills to translate complex engineering data into clear, executable directives for field crews and senior executives.
• Ability to build trust and maintain productive relationships with cross-functional operational teams and corporate stakeholders.
• Valid driver's license required with the ability to operate company vehicles safely in accordance with company policies.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Ability to work a 4-day, 10-hour day shift schedule (Monday–Thursday or Tuesday–Friday), with flexibility for weekend or evening work as operational needs require.
• Willingness to initially work based in Las Vegas and/or Beatty office locations, transitioning to the North Bullfrog Operations site once facilities are completed and operational.
