About the role

The UX/UI Design Manager leads and develops a team of UX/UI designers while providing design leadership, operational oversight, and direction across Orica Digital Solutions. This role owns and evolves the design system, ensuring a consistent and user-centered experience across digital products. Working closely with Product, Technology, and Business teams, the UX/UI Design Manager aligns design priorities with strategic objectives, enabling the delivery of intuitive, scalable, and commercially effective solutions.

• What you will be doing
• People Leadership: Lead, mentor and develop the ODS UX/UI design team through clear expectations, feedback, capability planning and development opportunities.

Design System: Build and maintain a modern ODS Design System that serves as the UX/UI guidelines, patterns and components for existing and new products, giving teams across the organisation autonomy and consistency.

Design Leadership: Define and continuously improve the UX/UI operating model, ways of working, standards, tools and governance required for an effective design practice.

Design Maturity: Right-size design system maturity and process to each product's context (team composition, tech stack, deadlines, resourcing), favouring shared principles over prescriptive process.

Resourcing & Collaboration: Work with designers, product managers and engineering to understand budgets, priorities and complexity, providing clarity on design tasks and investment, ensuring design depth connects directly with delivery. Coordinating design capacity across multiple products, favouring agile delivery and validation.

Stakeholder Engagement: Build confidence across technical and non-technical audiences by communicating the impact design activities have on the overall product performance, and the rationale behind design decisions and trade-offs.

• Research and Insight: Promote user research and ensure insights are translated into product decision enablers and design improvement opportunities.
• Workflows & Usability: Champion continuous improvement of user workflows, ensuring released workflows are smoother, more usable, and fit-for-purpose for end-users.
• Continuous Improvement: Use feedback, delivery evidence and product outcomes to improve the design practice, team effectiveness and overall customer experience.
• What you will bring

Bachelor’s degree in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Digital Design, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. Relevant domain, technical, leadership or professional qualifications are desirable.

• 10+ years of relevant UX/UI or digital product design experience, including demonstrated leadership experience.
• A record of delivering digital solutions across complex digital products or platforms.
• Experience working with product and engineering teams in an agile delivery environment, including managing competing priorities, constant changes and trade-offs.
• Experience managing people, including setting expectations, coaching, development planning and addressing capability needs.
• Strong knowledge of interaction and interface design, information architecture, prototyping, usability and user research methodologies.
• Experience establishing or maintaining design systems, libraries, guidelines and standards.
• Proficiency with Figma and relevant design, prototyping, collaboration and research tools.
• Builds trust through integrity, transparency and consistent follow-through.
• Provides clear direction while remaining open to evidence, feedback and alternative perspectives.
• Communicates complex design matters clearly.
• Demonstrates strong judgement, courage, resilience and adaptability in ambiguous or changing environments.

• Is organised, pragmatic and able to make timely decisions while maintaining attention to detail.
• Influences without relying solely on authority and creates shared ownership across disciplines.
