Our Opportunity

Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

Fortescue is seeking an experienced Study Lead to assess and develop future Pilbara deposits and projects beyond the current 10-Year Plan. You’ll lead early-stage mine planning, infrastructure integration, transport assessments and cost modelling, turning strategic opportunities into practical options that support Life of Mine planning, active studies and investment decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Lead technical assessments and option studies for future deposits and projects outside current active studies.

Enhance integrated spatial decision-support capability to develop early-stage mine layouts, infrastructure placement and material transport options, including corridors and staging scenarios.

• Prepare costed mine-planning inputs and consolidated CAPEX and OPEX assumptions for strategic planning, Life of Mine updates and investment decisions.
• Identify constraints and requirements relating to tenure, heritage, approvals, water, power, access and other non-process infrastructure.
• Peer review active studies, focusing on mine integration through to the ROM pad and optimising cross-functional interactions.
• Clearly communicate assumptions, risks, trade-offs and recommendations to technical and senior stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline, with significant experience in strategic planning or mining studies. Experience in major project studies desirable.

• Strong understanding of open-pit mining, mine-to-ROM integration, haulage systems, fleet requirements and production planning.
• Experience developing mine layouts, infrastructure staging options, transport, power or other infrastructure assessments

Experience developing and applying CAPEX and OPEX models in scenario assessments, option analysis, sensitivity testing and risk evaluation supporting capital investment and business-case requirements

• Understanding of the regulatory approval frameworks and experience in approvals, water, environment or heritage is an advantage.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate multidisciplinary technical inputs, lead workstreams and engage effectively with stakeholders.
