We have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an  Alternate Underground Manager  to join our high performing Underground team at our KCGM Operations.

Reporting to the Underground Manager , this is a new layer of Alternate Underground Managers in the organisation structure, where the primary role of the Alternate Underground Manager at the growing KCGM UG mine,and their primary role is to provide leadership support to the operational and technical teams to safely and effectively execute the mining plan.

The role is offered on an 8/6 roster,( 12-hour days) . , and this position is suitable to someone who is searching for can be either a residential opportunity in Kalgoorlie, known as the ‘heart of the goldfields’ with relocation expenses covered, or as a FIFO role ex Perth.

Here’s what awaits you

Directly control, manage, and supervise the operational and technical services team, including external mining contractors to safely achieve our agreed business plans.

Prepare forecasts and develop mining strategy with assistance from the geology department, planning and production engineering teams to deliver on mining cost, mine development, ore productions and key infrastructure upgrades to maximise the mine's contribution to the wider operation.

Manage and direct the underground technical team to produce the plans and designs in line with the mining schedule to deliver monthly production that achieves the budgeted tonnes and ounces.

  • Maintain regular communication with mine personnel to share updates, direction, and performance targets.
  • Maintain open and positive communication with other parts of the Mining Operation.
  • Develop personnel directly reporting to this position through coaching, training, and regular appraisals.

Demonstrate strong leadership through well-developed communication skills, including managing for performance and the ability to communicate mining operations information to management and site visitors.

  • Champion a safety-first culture by proactively identifying and mitigating mining risks.
  • Analyse and report on mining operational performance to identify any early interventions required to maintain performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to challenge the operational status quo and seek out improvements that will enable the planned growth of the mine.

To thrive in this role, you`ll need

Experience: Demonstrable experience in underground mine management at a minimum Alternate Underground Manager level. Underground production, project and planning experience in a mechanised hard-rock underground mine. Proven leadership and communication skills with a team of direct reports. Extensive knowledge of the Mining Work Health and Safety Regulations and Act. High level project and cost management skills. Ability to prepare reports and good analytical skills. Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices. Seasoned senior mining engineers with at least 3 years’ experience will be considered.

Qualifications: WA Underground First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency. Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution. Current "C" Class Western Australian Driver's Licence or equivalent.
